RECORD BASE AND OCCLUSION RIMS |
|
| Grade A | Record base 2-3 mm uniformly thick except in vestibule which may be thicker. Record base extends to depth of vestibule fully filling it. Base is well adapted to the master cast, rigid, and stable on master casts (no rock!). All surfaces of record base and occlusion rims smooth with no voids. No wax on tissue side of record base. No space between palate of cast and record base. Borders smoothly contoured as in a complete denture. Clean. Occlusion rims smooth and 3-5 mm in the anterior, 5-7 mm in the premolar region and 8-10 mm in the molar region. Anterior border slightly facial to record base flange, generally 5-9 mm facial to the center of the incisal papilla. Height of occlusion rim is 22 mm from the anterior labial flange to the incisal edge and the mandibular rim is 15-18 mm from the anterior border to the incisal edge and continues posteriorly parallel to the record base. Posterior ends of maxillary rim taper at a 45 degree angle and ends 8 mm short of the posterior border of the record base. Smoothed and polished. Rims centered over underlying ridge. Clean. |
| Grade B | Minor discrepancies from above which do not compromise the quality of the clinical treatment. |
| Grade C | Record base and occlusion rim is adequate to make a clinically acceptable complete denture, but marginally so. Record base not uniformly thick and smoothed. Border slightly shortened and/or rough. Occlusion rim excessively thick or thin. height incorrect by 2-3 mm. Occlusion rim ends more or less than 8 mm from posterior border of record base and/or not smoothed and polished. |
| Grade E | Record base and occlusion rim prevents clinically acceptable complete denture treatment. The record base is not stable and/or rocks on master cast, is not rigid, and is not well adapted to the master cast. There is space between the record base and the cast. The record base has borders grossly underextended, has wax on the tissue surface, or is dirty. The occlusion rim is not firmly attached to the record base, or is not centered over ridges, or is excessively malpositioned in relationship to the underlying ridges. The occlusion rim is dirty. |
