Clinical Procedure

Objective
To obtain an impression of the maximum denture-supporting area of each jaw, including specific anatomic landmarks. 

Instruments & Materials

a. Patient's chart
b. Gloves, mask, and eye protection for patient & student dentist
c. Radiographs
d. Water bath heated to 140 degrees F (60 degrees C)
e. Hanau torch and matches
f. Assortment of edentulous trays
g. Mouth Mirror
h.  2 X 2 gauze sponges
i. Impression compound 3 cakes( if doing compound tech.) or Alginate impression material and red utility wax (if using Irreversible Hydrocolloid).
j. Knife, Bard Parker with sharp No. 25 blade
l. Spatula and rubber bowl.

Preparation


a. have all instruments and materials ready before patient's arrival.

b. Heat the water bath to 140 degrees F (60 degrees C)

c. Seat the patient in the upright position and protect the patient's clothing with a napkin
