PATIENT VISIT 2– FINAL IMPRESSIONS
Clinical Procedures

Patient Visit 2 - Final Impressions (3-4 Hrs.)

1. Objectives

a. To develop a seal by border molding
b. To obtain an accurate impression of the maximum denture-supporting area
(basal seat tissue) of each jaw including specific anatomic-landmarks.
c. To develop retention and stability in the completed impression.

2. Instruments and Materials
a. Patient's chart
b. Gloves, mask, and eye protection for patient and student/dentist
c. Radiographs
d. Water bath heated to 140 degrees F (60 degrees C)
e. Bunsen burner and matches
g. Hanau torch
h. Preliminary casts with final impression trays previously graded by faculty.  Do not bring your patient to clinic until your preliminary casts and final impression trays have received a grade through faculty.
i. Straight hand piece
j. Assortment of acrylic burs and stones
k. Stick compound, 4 green
m. Mouth Mirror*
n. Gauze sponges - 2 x 2*
o. Knife B.P. No. 6 with sharp No. 25 blade*
p. No. 6 or 8 round bur
q. Spatula, Rubber base impression material  or Polyether impression material.
r. Vaseline

3. Preparation
a. Properly disinfect the assigned operatory and obtain starting check.
b. Have all instruments and materials ready before patient's arrival.
c. Seat the patient in an upright position and protect the patient's clothing with a napkin
