Remounting the Maxillary Denture (Prior to denture
delivery)
1. Equipment and Materials:
a. Maxillary finished and
polished denture b. Maxillary remount cast c. Bowl and spatula
d. Articulator and mounting plate e. Remount jig and occlusal
index f. Mounting stone
2. Procedure: a. Place the mounting plate
on the upper member of the articulator. Attach the remount jig with
its occlusal index to the lower member of the articulator. Set the
incisal guide pin at the zero mark. b. Place the maxillary denture on
its remount cast. Fit the maxillary denture into the occlusal
index. c. Mix a small amount of mounting stone and attach the maxillary
remount cast to the upper member of the articulator. d. After the stone
has hardened, remove the mounted cast from the articulator. The
mounting should be trimmed and smoothed until it is neat. e. Place the
maxillary and mandibular dentures in a plastic bag with water. The
dentures should always be kept in water to prevent dimensional changes due
to evaporation. Remember to wash them with soap and disinfect them
prior to placing them in the patient's mouth. f. Have the remount casts
with the maxillary cast mounted on the articulator, the occlusal index,
and the processed dentures graded through your faculty prior to the patient
appointment.

Grading Criteria for Remount Casts Prior
to Denture Delivery
- Grade A - Remount casts allow accurate, stable positioning of
maxillary and mandibular dentures. Casts are clean and neatly
trimmed. Maxillary cast is mounted on articulator and fits smoothly
and accurately into occlusal index provided. - Grade B - Minor
discrepancies from above which do not compromise the quality of the
clinical treatment. Base slightly thicker or thinner than
ideal. Remount casts a little rough. - Grade C - Remount casts
are dirty, roughly formed, and/or dentures do not seat on the casts in
stable manner. Mounted maxillary denture does not fully or smoothly
seat into occlusal index provided. - Grade E - Remount casts are not
present or are so inaccurately formed that accurate positioning of the
dentures on the casts is not
possible. |
