First Recipient of Yardley Family Scholarship Announced |
| |
Kelsey Galyk, a pre-dental hygiene student at The Ohio State University Lima, is the first recipient of the Yardley Family Scholarship. The scholarship fully funds tuition, books, licensure, and examination fees for one student in the Division of Dental Hygiene for three years.
"It has lifted a burden off my shoulders," Galyk said. “I am so excited to move to Columbus next August and get started in the hygiene program."
1958 graduate Lou Ann Moritz Ransom made a gift to the College of Dentistry last year in support of the Division of Dental Hygiene by establishing the Yardley Family Scholarship in Dental Hygiene.
"My late husband, Michael Moritz, and I have been supporters of the College of Law at Ohio State, and I felt that it was time to support the College of Dentistry, specifically the Division of Dental Hygiene," said Ms. Moritz Ransom. "I graduated from Dental Hygiene, as did my sisters Jeanne (Yardley) Bogen and Mary (Yardley) Giannola, so I decided to create a scholarship in our family name. We're hopeful that by establishing this scholarship, others will be inspired to follow our lead in supporting the College of Dentistry and the Division of Dental Hygiene."
Galyk was granted early admission to the dental hygiene class of 2014 due to her outstanding grades, and other attributes she possesses.

The Dental Hygiene Program at The Ohio State University offers the only baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene in the state of Ohio. Students have a unique opportunity to prepare for an exciting profession while also completing a baccalaureate program at a nationally recognized university.
In addition to preparation for licensure in dental hygiene, the baccalaureate program prepares students for additional roles of leadership and responsibility in a variety of health care settings.
There are two tracks leading to the degree Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. The traditional track includes basic sciences and general education courses followed by the professional training required to prepare students for licensure as dental hygienists. Information about this track is provided under Entry Level Dental Hygiene Program.
In addition, The Ohio State University offers a Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program for graduates of an ADA accredited dental hygiene program who wish to complete the baccalaureate degree. For more information, go to Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program. |
