Application Update for 2012 Applicants:

Application material is ready for 2013 applicants.

Advanced Endodontic Program Admission Information

Those applying for the graduate endodontic program are encouraged to have at least one year experience in general dentistry, i.e. private practice, member of the Armed Forces, Public Health Service, or a GPR/AEGD experience. However, this is not absolutely necessary. We do not require a GRE Exam score for admission. We do not use the PASS system.

Special attention is given to grades or class standing the applicant attained in their predoctoral program and experiences in the field of endodontics following graduation.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept foreign trained dentists in our program. Applicants must have a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited North American dental school.

Interview requests will be made by phone after all the applications have been received and reviewed. Interviews are by invitation only. Please do not call or write to request an interview/tour of the facility.

FAQs

1. Is a GPR/AEGD/private practice experience required to apply?

  • It is not required, but it is encouraged. Clinical experience after dental school is valued.

2. Will you accept additional letters of recommendation?

  • Yes, but only a few. These letters do not add weight to the application.

3. Do you require the GRE? TOEFL?

  • These tests are not required when applying for the program.

4. Does the program lead to an endodontic certificate/masters degree?

  • It is a requirement of residents to earn both a certificate and a masters degree. Neither is optional.

5. Do you accept international applicants?

  • We are unable to accept foreign-trained dentists in our program unless they have earned either a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited North American dental school.

6. How many positions are there? How many usually apply?

  • We currently have four residents in each class. In general, we have approximately 125 applicants, in a given year, applying for entry into the program.

7. Does one have to be in the top 10% of their class? Is there a minimum GPA?

  • We do not have set standards for class rank or GPA. We look at the overall application including letters of recommendation, clinical experiences, research experience and postdoctoral training/practice.

8. Can I come to visit/tour the school/meet with the faculty?

  • We do not encourage visits. Candidates will be invited for tours/interviews after all the applications have been reviewed.

9. I applied last year. Do I need to reapply or can I reactivate my application?

  • You can reactivate your application from last year. Simply send a new, updated application form with a check/money order for $45.00 to the address above. If your transcript or National Board scores need to be updated, please be sure to have those sent to us also. New letters of recommendation will also be accepted.

10. What are the qualities of a successful applicant (grades, test scores, research experience, GPR training, etc.)?

  • The qualities vary form year to year (see FAQ #7). Each year a new pool of applicants arrive, each with varying strengths. Please use the link to our Current Residents page to see the diversity of experience, background and training they have had.

11. Do you accept applicants who have not trained at The Ohio State University?

  • Yes!!! We have had resident classes in which not a single resident had gone to OSU. You are referred to the Current Residents page to see the diversity of training our residents have had.

12. Do you have any information material about the program you can send me?

  • No - our website has the important information available to you. If you peruse the entire The Ohio State University and College of Dentistry websites, you will get an idea of the atmosphere here in Columbus and on campus.
