Description

Gluma Desensitizer is a simple, one-step chairside procedure for treating and preventing dentinal hypersensitivity.

Gluma's patented Glutaraldehyde/HEMA formula acts in seconds to seal dentinal tubules, preventing the fluid shifting recognized as the primary cause of localized hypersensitivity. Gluma also inhibits the growth of bacteria, which are also indicated as a cause of sensitivity.

UNIQUE: Gluma's patented formula works within the dentinal tubule complex by reacting with protein fluids to form a physiological seal within the tubules. No surface layer is formed, making Gluma ideal for use under all indirect restorations.

EASY TO USE: There is no cumbersome technique with Gluma. Simply apply and dry. It's a simple chemical reaction, so there is virtually no technique sensitivity associated with Gluma.

UNIVERSALLY COMPATIBLE: It may be used with any restorative material in any situation to treat cervical sensitivity or prevent postoperative sensitivity.

CLINICALLY PROVEN AND RECOMMENDED: Numerous studies have been performed on Gluma, from safety through efficacy, in a number of different situations. Leading clinicians recommend Gluma for the treatment and prevention of hypersensitivity.

ECONOMICAL: A large amount of Gluma is not required to desensitize, nor are multiple applications. Each bottle contains 5ml or approximately 150 drops. A drop can treat multiple teeth, depending on the size of the areas being treated.

Indications for Use

As a normal part of resin bonding with a Gluma 3-step.
Under any indirect resin-bonded inlay, onlay, crown or veneer.
Under amalgam fillings.
Under crowns cemented with zinc phosphate cements.
In conjunction with other dentin bonding systems which may not provide a desensitization effect.
When cementum removal from scaling and root planing exposes the dentinal tubules of root dentin, causing fluid flow and dentinal sensitivity to rapid air movement from cold stimuli (i.e. ice).
Gluma Desensitizer is not indicated when the diagnosis suggests the patient suffers from irreversible pulpits (i.e. heat or chewing). However, when diagnosis suggests reversible pulpits from cold or air, Gluma desensitizer is practical to place at all cavosurface margins of the restoration in question.

Directions for Use

Prepare cavity area, if required.
Place cavity liner, if desired.
A dry tooth surface prior to application is not necessary. A moist surface is acceptable.
Simply apply Gluma primer to the dentin of the tooth to be restored or that has sensitivity, using a gentle rubbing motion with a sterile cotton pellet.
Wait 30 seconds and dry.

 TECHNIQUE 1:

  1. Providing the tooth or tissues are not too sensitive, clean the cervical area with pumice and rinse area with water.
  2. Apply Gluma Desensitizer with a cotton pellet, using gentle but firm mechanical pressure.
  3. Rubbing will serve to assist with the delivery of the solution to all the affected dentinal tubules.
  4. Wait 30 seconds and dry thoroughly (do not rinse).
  5. Repeat application if problem has been long standing with patient.

TECHNIQUE 2 (If area is too sensitive to clean with pumice):

  1. Apply Gluma Desensitizer using a gentle rubbing motion with a sterile cotton pellet.
  2. Wait 30 seconds and dry thoroughly. Do not rinse.
  3. Apply second coat of Gluma desensitizer.
  4. Wait 30 seconds and dry.
  5. If patient is no longer hyper-sensitive, apply Gluma Desensitizer again using technique 1.

WHEN TO APPLY GLUMA DESENSITIZER

Under Amalgam Restorations: Place after the tooth has been prepared.

If using a bonding agent under an amalgam restoration apply Gluma Desensitizer after removal of smear layer, usually by applying an acid etchant. This will stop fluid flow and not interfere with primer treatment.

With other bonding systems: Place Gluma Desensitizer after the dentinal smear layer has been removed.

Gluma Desensitizer does not require removal of smear layer in order to desensitize, but most dentin bonding agents require removal in order to achieve a bond.

Under non-resin bonded cast restorations: Apply Gluma Desensitizer prior to application of temporary cement.

Reapply at final seating if needed.

Place after removal of temporary cement and cleaning of tooth prior to placement of permanent cement.

Under resin bonded veneers, inlays, onlays, crowns: Place Gluma Desensitizer after smear layer has been removed, usually by applying an acid etchant. This will stop fluid flow and not interfere with primer treatment.

Gluma Desensitizer does not require smear layer removal in order to desensitize, but most dentin bonding agents require removal in order to achieve a bond.

For cervical sensitivity ( no resin is to be placed over area): For cervical sensitivity ( no resin is to be placed over area):

If cervical sensitivity is a continuos problem, use a complete bonding system such as Gluma (3-step) Bonding System.

After root planning/period treatment: Apply Gluma Desensitizer directly to the treated area with a gentle rubbing motion using a sterile cotton pellet.

NOTE: Clinical trials have shown inconsistent results with desensitizing after root planing. In some cases, multiple applications with mechanical rubbing of Gluma Desensitizer may provide better results.
