Dr. Harold McDaniel Wins Distinguished
The Dental Alumni Society honors a College of Dentistry alumnus each
year with the Distinguished Alumni Award, which is presented at Post
College Assembly. The award is given to alumni who demonstrate good
character, and who have given outstanding service or other contributions
to the College of Dentistry, to the fields of art and science, or to
This year's award winner is Dr. Harold McDaniel, a graduate of the
class of 1958. Throughout his long career, Dr. McDaniel's many
accomplishments include the development of the Franklin Park Medical
Center, which was one of the first minority-owned businesses in
Columbus. He has also served as an advisor for the Ohio Department of
Job and Family Services, where he created policy guidelines for the Ohio
Dental Medicaid Program.
A loyal alumnus, Dr. McDaniel has made generous contributions to Ohio
State and the College of Dentistry. The two scholarship funds he created
-- one for the College of Biological Sciences, and the other for the
College of Dentistry -- give financial help annually to deserving
Setting an example for other dentists, Dr. McDaniel has made many
outstanding contributions to the community, to the field of dentistry,
and to the patients he has served.
The College of Dentistry congratulates Dr. McDaniel for his lifetime
of service in dentistry, and for being an accomplished and inspirational
alumnus, colleague, and friend.
