The College of Dentistry’s Convocation Ceremony was held Sunday, April 28 in the Mershon Auditorium. The traditional ceremony honored the achievements of the Dental Hygiene and the Doctor of Dental Surgery classes of 2013.

This year’s event featured a convocation address by Dental Alumni Society President Jacinto Beard, who shared some of his own experiences as a newly graduated dentist from The Ohio State University. As Dr. Beard recounted his first day as a dental professional, he said, "My colleagues were amazed at how well prepared I was for the world of professional dental practice. When I left the office after my first full day as a dentist, I said to myself, 'Thank God for The Ohio State University and the College of Dentistry!'"

"Because of the hard work and commitment of the graduates we honor today, our college is a better place to care for patients and to educate the next classes of dental hygiene and dental students."

College of Dentistry Dean Patrick M. Lloyd presented awards and certificates of honor to members of the classes of 2013, which included 105 DDS graduates, 1 DDS/PhD graduate, and 29 dental hygiene graduates.

In his remarks to the newly graduated students and their friends and family, Dean Lloyd said, "I would like you all to know that because of the hard work and commitment of the graduates we honor today, our college is a better place to care for patients and to educate the next classes of dental hygiene and dental students. We are grateful for their many contributions to our college, and we're better for having had the experience of working with these bright young students who are now our alumni and colleagues in the dental profession."
