"Because We Care:" Ohio’s Midmark Corporation Gives $400K for Dentistry Clinic Renovation

“Because we care” is a phrase that is part of the Midmark Corporation’s trademark, and it represents a philosophy to which the company is strongly committed. With its recent gift of $400,000 to the College of Dentistry for much-needed clinic renovations, the Ohio-based company showed that it cares about the College and Ohio State, and that it's determined to make a difference.

Headquartered in Versailles, Ohio, the Midmark Corporation manufactures veterinary, medical, and dental supplies. The company is led by CEO Dr. Anne Eiting Klamar, who is an alumnus of Ohio State’s College of Medicine and a firm believer in the Buckeye tradition of giving back.

Commenting on the recent gift that provided extensive renovations for dentistry’s emergency dental clinic, Dr. Klamar said, “The reason for this gift is certainly because we care about Ohio State and the College of Dentistry, but it’s also something we wanted to do because we’re committed to improving health care, and we’re passionate about education.”

Associate Dean Cheryl DeVore Retires April 1, 2011

In a letter to faculty, staff, and students, Dean Carole Anderson recently announced that Cheryl DeVore, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies, will retire on April 1, 2011.

Dean Anderson said, “Cheryl DeVore has had an exceptional academic career, and she has been a great asset to this College. Serving as a faculty member, division chair, and associate dean, she has brought enormous energy, talent, and dedication to all these roles. I accept Cheryl's resignation with regret, but I ask you to join me in wishing her well as she moves to the next phase of her professional life.”

Associate Dean DeVore added her own farewell remarks to the dentistry community. “After 30 years of service to the College of Dentistry, I’ve decided it’s time for me to retire. I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had here. My interactions with faculty colleagues and staff members have been so good and so very rewarding. Working with the pre-doctoral, dental hygiene, and graduate students I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and advising will always be the most rewarding professional experience of my career and, undoubtedly, it’s what has kept me here for these many years.

I’m grateful to Dean Anderson for her continued support, and I’ll work with her and my successor to make the transition as smooth as possible. I know this College is poised to do great things, and I look forward to all the changes and progress that will come in this new year.”

Associate Dean DeVore is a graduate of Capital University Law School. She served as the College's Director of Dental Hygiene from 1995 until 2002, when she was appointed as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies. Dean DeVore is chair of the American Dental Education Association's Section on Academic Affairs. She is also a Board Member of the Ohio Chapter of the Healthcare Business Womens’ Association, serving as the chair of its committee on Women in Science.  Dean DeVore currently practices law in Dublin, Ohio.

Dentistry Donations to Bucks for Charity Exceed All Goals!

The College of Dentistry's donations to the 2010 Bucks for Charity fundraiser met and exceeded the goals set for the campaign that ended in December.

Based on previous years' contributions, and taking into account recent economic downturns, the 2010 campaign efforts focused on raising $27,000 to aid local charities.

In a show of outstanding support, dentistry's faculty and staff members' gifts moved the College to 110.4% of the expected goal, which translated into more than $30,000 in actual donations.

Thanks to all who gave generously to this worthwhile cause!
