Dr. Richard Burns is
originally from Troy, Ohio and attended Miami University where
he received a BA degree in Zoology in 1979. He then
enrolled in The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and
graduated with honors in 1983. After completing a General
Practice Residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio in
1984, Dr. Burns entered the graduate orthodontic program
at the Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis.
Upon graduation in 1986, he entered private practice in New
Philadelphia, Ohio, where he currently resides.
Consistent with his training at Indiana, Dr. Burns maintains
an interest in integrating biomechanical principles into
clinical practice. It is with this emphasis that he
approaches teaching, both in academic and clinical settings.
Other areas of clinical interest include treatment of
temporomandibular disorders and interceptive treatment with
fixed and removable appliances.
Professional affiliations include: the American Dental
Association, the Ohio Dental Association, Tuscarawas Dental
Society, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Great
Lakes Association of Orthodontists, the Ohio Association of
Orthodontists, the Cleveland Society of Orthodontists and the
Pierre Fauchard Academy. In addition, Dr. Burns is
involved with several local church and community organizations.
On a personal level, Dr. Burns maintains interests in bass
guitar, automotive performance and racing, as well as
recreational shooting and (of course) Ohio State Football.
